Syma S107 Helicopter
The Syma S107 helicopter is an infrared remote control lightweight helicopter that is fun for kids of all ages to fly. The little copter is small and it is meant for indoor enjoyment. When you take the helicopter outside into the bright light the infrared remote cannot function correctly and thus you do not have total control of your device.
This is not to say that it will not fly outdoors at all, but it will not respond adequately to every command. Unfortunately the device can also have reduced capabilities when you fly it indoors if there is an extremely bright light in the room.
You can however use this device at night when there is little or no breeze blowing. This little helicopter is very stable. This is because the helicopter has two rotors that create a nice gyroscopic effect. With two different rotors turning in opposite directions from each other they effectively cancel out any reactive torque they create. This is a perfect remote control helicopter to give to a beginner because they will be able to control and fly the device from the beginning. Later on in their experiences with remote control planes and helicopters they can try some of the more difficult to fly versions.
One of the biggest reasons you can give the Syma S107 helicopter to a child or a beginner is because it has an all aluminum framed body that holds up surprisingly well in a crash. A novice is going to have crashes with their helicopter before they learn to control it.
Many of the more expensive remote control flying devices are easily broken and cannot stand even a small crash. The beginner gets frustrated with these devices because it seems they will never get the hang of flying them.
Actually the Syma S107 helicopter is priced very reasonable, often you can find these items under $30. That does not mean you would want it to break it, the first time you fly it, but the reasonable price coupled with the quality, and durability, of the item will make giving this remote control flyer to a child a positive experience. Children can give up very quickly when they think they are failing at something, and once they give up they do not usually want to try again. But the S107 is so much fun once you get the hang of it, even children want to fly it all day long.
People who have been flying remote control flying devices for a long enough period of time that they are considered to be experts in the play will love the Syma S107 helicopter every bit as much as the beginner does. Even an expert has the occasional crash and when you want to play you cannot relax and enjoy the flight if you are worried about tearing up your equipment.
